It is all closing down

Posted by Nicole at 08:53 AM December 01, 2008

What the hell is going on in London? Turnmills closed down earlier this year and so was Canvas, both two massive clubs. I have to admit I didn't really care that much about both closing down, as I never went to Turnmills and only went to Canvas a few times for the Ed Banger party, Our Disco (2x) and Bugged Out.

What does makes me sad is the closure of The End at the end of January next year. I have always treasured my Trash night outs, which had its last ever in 2007. Durrr, which replaced Trash, has and still is one of those nights I would make an exception for to go to on a Monday night. Where Durrr will go as from next year is even for the promoters still a question, as there are not really that many suitable venues to host a night such as Durrr. What about Bugged Out? I am not sure what their plan is when The End has closed its doors. Seeing that they have had special parties in the past (Hearn Street carpark, Canvas, Heaven), I am sure they will find a nice spot to carry on what they have been doing for years. If you are wondering what is gonna happen with The End, well, the building is going to be demolished and a casino will then take its place*. Wooot?!?

On Friday it was announced that Metro Club on Oxford Street will have to close down as from January. You might know that the Astoria is closing down, because of big plans of extending the train station underneath. The same reason is why Metro has been forced to close down and they only got notified about this last week. Metro is one of those clubs I went to years ago to see live bands and for the indie-night Bedrock.

There is more closing down. East London's T-Bar has to make a big move on the 22nd December. If wish you can make a tribute (well sort of) the day before, when they are having a garage sale. If you still need to buy a nice X-mas present, T-Bar might be your place to be. Whether you want to buy a chair, barware or DJ stuff, you might find it on 21st December between 14:00 and 20:00.

* That's what I have been told.
